Later, he realized something chilling: that same antibiotic had been prescribed the year before and sat in a drawer at home. Had he taken it during a trip to Alaska—far from help—he likely wouldn’t have survived.

Just as Sig regained his footing, another storm struck. While filming Season 15, Sig received a call from his wife, June—a rare interruption during a trip. Doctors had found cancer in her neck.

He abandoned the expedition. No catch, no camera, no storm could matter more.

June’s treatment was swift—and successful. Within two months, she was declared cancer-free. But the emotional weight on the family was immeasurable. It changed Sig in quiet ways.

Time: The Final Challenger

Now approaching 60, Sig Hansen is confronting something more daunting than waves or weather—his own mortality.
