‘Really sad’ reason Emmerdale’s Vanessa star Michelle Hardwick split from first wife
It’s fair to say Emmerdale favourite Michelle Hardwick’s love life has made several headlines over the years
Michelle Hardwick is a firm favourite on Emmerdale as Vanessa Woodfield – but what do we know about her love life?
The actress joined the ITV soap back in 2012 – and it’s fair to say she has quickly become a firm favourite with fans. The character has also played a big part in several storylines during her stint on the soap.
From a heartbreaking bowel cancer diagnosis to her romance with Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins), Vanessa’s time in the Dales has not been short of drama.
Especially at the moment as she appears to have fallen for evil Dr Caitlin Todd (Caroline Harker) after she moved into her spare room. Fans will recall that Dr Todd has been making medical student Jacob Sugden’s (Joe-Warren Plant) work a living nightmare in recent months.

Away from the soap though, Michelle’s love life has often made headlines over the years. The talented star was previously married to Rosie Nicholl. Michelle and Rosie met in 2011 when Michelle was doing pantomime and Rosie was playing in the orchestra.
Going from strength to strength, Michelle and Rosie tied the knot in 2015. The pair said their “I do’s” at Danby Castle, near Whitby in North Yorkshire, and beamed with happiness in the wedding photos.
Sadly, in 2017, Michelle confirmed her split from Rosie. Speaking to the Daily Star, she said: “Unfortunately Rosie and I did split last year but are still good friends. It was one of those things where we did drift apart. We had a big fairytale wedding and I still love that day, it was brilliant.
“It’s just really sad and one of those things that happens. We still have our dogs which we’ll share and nobody else was involved, it just happened and it was a mutual decision. I don’t know how else to explain it.
“I grew out of love and she became more of my best friend. It was like we were living as friends, not a married couple. We’re still living together, just in separate rooms while the divorce goes through but it’s underway.”
After her split from Rosie, Michelle found love with Kate Brooks. Kate, a talented TV executive, previously worked as a series producer on Emmerdale before being appointed as the producer of Coronation Street.
The couple announced their relationship in October 2018, on National Coming Out Day, with a sweet Instagram photo. The pair got engaged after Michelle organised a memorable proposal featuring a flash mob of The Greatest Showman performers at their local cinema
Michelle and Kate ended up ditching a big showbiz wedding in the UK and kept their nuptials just between the two of them, flying off to Elvis Presley’s iconic Graceland in Memphis in September 2019. The happy couple have since gone on to welcome two children, a son called Teddy and a daughter named Betty.
