A major Emmerdale storyline surrounding the mystery arsonist setting farm fires may have just been inadvertently revealed.
The ITV soap has been guarding the identity of the firestarter closely, dangling a lengthy list of suspects before viewers, who have now called out a significant “blunder” made right at the end of Thursday’s (May 21) episode that has potentially blown the secret wide open.
Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) was the first villager to fall under suspicion, followed by Robert Sugden’s (Ryan Hawley) vengeful ex-husband Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) and, more recently, Ross Barton (Michael Parr). Next week, Emmerdale spoilers have confirmed that Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah) is also brought in for questioning — but who is truly pulling the strings?
At the opening of the latest episode, a hooded figure appeared at the farm once more, poised to ignite yet another blaze, though viewers were only afforded a glimpse of the mystery person’s trainers and their back before the fire took hold.
As the end credits rolled, the first name to appear was that of Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn) — and given that cast lists are typically ordered by appearance, the fact that the youngster did not feature anywhere else in the episode has left fans convinced that bosses have accidentally tipped their hand.

Taking to social media, one sharp-eyed viewer noted: “In tonight’s credits, Kyle is listed as the first person to appear but the first person to appear was the arsonist and then Joe so it looks like they’ve shot themselves in the foot and revealed it too early.”
Another added: “Howling at Emmerdale exposing who the fire starter is before they were supposed to!” Someone else said: Oh look who’s the arsonist? We all already knew, thanks for the confirmation.”
A fourth person wrote: “Emmerdale spoiling their own little arsonist whodunnit in the credits of the episode.” A fifth then said: “Why would you put Kyle’s name in the cast list? Thanks for spoiling it for us, Emmerdale!”

Earlier this week, sharp-eyed viewers also picked up on a telling moment that appeared to give the game away. When Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) arrived to inform Moira (Natalie J Robb) and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) that another blaze had broken out at the farm, Kyle was seated at the table doing his homework.
As Moira expressed relief that she was seemingly not the target and the pair discussed who could be responsible, Kyle glanced up. The camera lingered on him just a fraction too long, and his expression appeared just a touch too anxious for his presence in the shot to be purely coincidental.
Writing on Emmerdale Insider’s Facebook page, one fan said: “Of course it is Kyle, it’s not hard! Couldn’t be anymore obvious if he was singing Prodigy!” in reference to the band’s famous song Firestarter. Another added: “It’s written all over his face.” A third added: “I saw that look, Kyle could definitely be involved.”
Fans will have to wait and see whether Cain’s son Kyle is truly the arsonist, or whether the show’s bosses are simply keeping viewers guessing as the mystery continues to unfold.
