My 600-lb Life: “Fans Never Saw THIS Coming — Dr. Now Faces Shocking Accusations”
Dr. Younan Nowzaradan — better known as Dr. Now from TLC’s hit reality show My 600-lb Life — has long been praised for transforming lives. But behind the success stories and viral moments lies a lesser-known reality: multiple patients have taken legal action against him and the show, claiming they were publicly humiliated and misrepresented on national television.
“It Wasn’t What I Signed Up For”
Over the years, at least five former participants of My 600-lb Life have filed lawsuits against Dr. Now and the show’s production company, Megalomedia. While some complaints involve alleged negligent care or medical decisions, several others have centered around emotional trauma and humiliation.

According to one lawsuit, a patient claimed they were pressured to exaggerate their struggles on camera and filmed in vulnerable moments without full consent. Another plaintiff described their experience as “exploitative,” saying the show prioritized drama over dignity.
Dr. Now has denied any wrongdoing. In interviews, he’s said that while he’s aware of lawsuits, his priority remains the health and safety of his patients — both physically and emotionally.

“I tell it like it is,” Dr. Now stated. “Sometimes the truth is hard, but it saves lives.”
Fans of the show are divided. Some believe the lawsuits are simply a byproduct of being in the spotlight, while others believe that the emotional toll of being showcased while at rock bottom deserves more scrutiny.
Reality TV Or Medical Drama?
These legal challenges raise important questions about how far reality shows can go in portraying people’s lives for entertainment. Is it helpful motivation — or emotional manipulation?
And with more lawsuits surfacing, the real question is:
Will TLC finally change how it films the show… or keep pushing the limits for ratings?
