Janelle Brown Opens Up About Skin Cancer Recurrence: ‘Don’t Put Off That Appointment – The World Needs You’

Sister Wives star Janelle Brown is once again facing a serious health scare. The 54-year-old reality TV personality took to Instagram to reveal that she has recently experienced a recurrence of skin cancer, with doctors identifying and removing two new pre-cancerous spots on her skin — one of which was located on her lip.

Sharing a raw and honest update with her followers, Janelle posted a close-up photo showing fresh stitches on her lip. “Posting this picture as a reminder to get your skin checked,” she captioned the image. “Even if you have ALWAYS been careful about sunscreen. I am and always have been. You have to when you are as fair as I am.”

The Sister Wives star explained that during her routine annual skin check — something she has prioritized since her last cancer diagnosis — doctors found a small lump and two abnormal spots. “Today I had 2 pre-cancerous spots frozen and a tiny lump removed from my lip,” she said.

While the procedure was minor, she emphasized that it wasn’t something to overlook. “Yes, it’s a pain to schedule the appointment when you are busy. And yes, there is a small amount of discomfort. But 2 pre-cancerous spots were stopped in their tracks. Worth it.”

This isn’t the first time Brown has dealt with skin cancer. Back in 2021, she was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, a common but non-malignant type of skin cancer. At the time, it was viewers of Sister Wives who first noticed a strange mark above her lip in several scenes from the show. Janelle initially assumed it was a cold sore — something she’d had repeatedly over the past two decades. But this time, it looked and behaved differently.

“I started to see what looked like a scar develop in an area on my lip where all of my cold sores for the past two decades have erupted,” she explained. “I thought it was a new cold sore forming, but then it never developed and just stayed.” As it slowly grew in size, she tried treating it with scar medication. Due to delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, she wasn’t able to see a doctor immediately. When she finally did, she was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma and underwent treatment.

Now, facing yet another close call, Janelle is using her platform to encourage others to take skin health seriously. Her post ended with heartfelt hashtags like #skincancerprevention, #maketheappointment, #theworldneedsyou, and #yourfamilyneedsyou — a reminder that early detection is critical and could make all the difference.

Janelle’s message is clear and urgent: Don’t ignore the signs, don’t delay your checkups, and don’t assume a spot on your skin is harmless. “Make the appointment,” she urged. “Your life matters. The world needs you — and so does your family.”
