‘High Potential’ Fans, You’ll Have So Many Thoughts About This Change Ahead of Season 3
The hit ABC series will return to TV … but not at the time you may expect.

High Potential was renewed for season 3 on ABC.
Fans learned on May 12 that High Potential’s season 3 premiere date will be pushed back to midseason 2027.
The show will be part of a schedule that involves new seasons of The Rookie and Will Trent on ABC.
High Potential fans, we have some news that you need to stop and pay attention to.
It’s been a month since season 2 ended on ABC, and fans are already eager for more episodes to drop. After all, the show did get renewed for season 3, meaning we’ll be spending more time with Morgan Gillory (Kaitlin Olson) and Detective Adam Karadec (Daniel Sunjata)!
While the past seasons have seen fans tune into High Potential beginning in the fall, it looks like things are going to be a little different ahead of the upcoming installment. According to a May 12 report from Variety, ABC decided to change things up for its fall 2026 TV schedule. As part of the change, High Potential season 3 will be pushed back to the midseason timeframe. Meaning: the earliest fans will get to see new episodes of High Potential will be in January 2027.
Even though this feels like a massive shift in programming, Ari Goldman, ABC’s senior vice president, content strategy and scheduling, gave a good reason for the move. According to an official statement to the outlet, it has to do with the fact that the network wants fans to enjoy High Potential without all the hiatuses season 2 had between episodes.
“The High Potential move to midseason is one that’s really born out of the success that we’ve proven over the last couple of years with Will Trent, The Rookie, and the uninterrupted runs that we’ve enjoyed starting in that January timeframe going through the end of the season,” he stated. “We’re thinking about the behavior of our linear audience, but also the streaming viewers, who really have shown the importance of week-over-week steadiness in planning and rolling out these shows.”
“We do not take lightly the move of High Potential to midseason,” he added. “But I think this is a real opportunity to bridge through to the end of the year, to keep an uninterrupted run of episodes.”
Well, this is definitely an unexpected twist of events! Luckily, though, High Potential won’t be the only series being held back until the midseason premiere. ABC’s other hit dramas, The Rookie and Will Trent, will be back for seasons 9 and 5 respectively during this time, per Deadline. And as Ari concluded in his official comments about the change, fans will be kept on alert for when High Potential will make its return to TV.
“Rest assured, our audience will be well aware of the return of High Potential,” he said. “We will have that that show all over ABC as we get close to the return.”
