Will Trent fans should buckle up for more heartbreak in season 4, especially after season 3’s shocking death. The ABC police procedural TV series is no stranger to tragedy. Over the course of the show’s first three seasons, the main characters (especially Will Trent and Angie Polaski) have experienced more trauma than most people do in one lifetime.

From assaults to betrayals, the Will Trent characters have seen it all. However, the protagonist in particular has had it rough. In season 1, Will learned the truth behind his mother’s untimely death. The next season, he watched as a woman he was interested in died and arrested the “love of his life.” Then, season 3 upped the ante even further with a horrific death.

Will Accidentally Shot The Young Teen

Will accidentally shot and killed a young teen boy named Marco in Will Trent season 3, episode 11, “Best of Your Recollection.” The hour was unique in that its story was told in reverse. We started with Will in shock after the tragedy, waiting to be interrogated, and as the episode continued, the audience slowly but surely learned exactly what happened.

Will and Faith were chasing an armed suspect when he ran into an apartment building. The two partners split up, and Will caught up with him. The GBI agent ended up having to fire his gun at the parolee, and sadly, one of the bullets ricocheted and struck the aforementioned teenager, who was 14 years old, in the next apartment over.

Will and Faith tried rushing Marco to the hospital, but he bled out in the backseat of their car, while the older man held him in his arms. Later on, the death was ruled an accident, meaning Will didn’t face any punishment for his role in Marco’s death. However, that didn’t mean that he wouldn’t punish himself for accidentally shooting an innocent boy.

Marco’s death destroyed Will in Will Trent season 3, and he never recovered from the tragedy. He broke up with Marion Alba, realizing that he was in no state to date anyone. He joined a cult (well, he went undercover to implicate the group, but it was still reckless and dangerous). Will then rebuffed therapy, despite desperately needing it.

The Protagonist Cannot Be Happy For Too Long

Will Trent season 3 ended with Will in a bad place. Based on everything he went through throughout the season (plus Amanda Wagner and/or Michael Ormewood’s potential deaths), Will’s mental state is questionable heading into season 4. Oh, and Will accidentally met his biological father in season 3’s penultimate episode, and he wasn’t exactly eager to get to know him.

One would think that Will had hit rock bottom by the Will Trent season 3 finale. However, just when the audience thinks that Will has experienced the worst, the show throws something else at him. Unfortunately, that’s unlikely to change anytime soon because Will Trent needs drama, and Will is the main character. The series won’t let him stay happy for too long.

Will Trent season 4 undoubtedly has more tragedy waiting for Will. His story has only gotten darker as the episodes continue, and it would be strange if he spent the fourth season happier than ever. Plus, Angie is pregnant. Will is going to watch her have a baby with another man and obtain the future that he always imagined for the two of them.

Ultimately, Will can’t escape his trauma, and it’s highly likely he’ll experience more in the upcoming episodes of Will Trent season 4; Marco’s death proved that. Will is simply a tragic character who will be hurt time and time again in the ABC series. It might be unfair, but Will’s trauma is arguably Will Trent‘s foundation, as sad as that may be.

Will Trent Season 4 Might Kill Off A Main Character

Season 3 Ended On A Couple Of Cliffhangers

The good news is that Will is physically safe in season 4 because Will Trent will never kill off Ramón Rodríguez’s character. If the writers did, they would have to retitle the show. The bad news is that everyone else is fair game. And after the season 3 finale, two series regulars are in danger of dying during the season 4 premiere.

Season 3 ended with Ormewood collapsing from what looked to be a seizure. He had recently found out that he had a brain tumor, and the mass is probably responsible for his episode. Meanwhile, a terrorist shot Amanda in the chest. The last time we saw her, she was unconscious, and Will was sitting by her bedside in the hospital, begging her to fight.

Ormewood will likely survive his seizure. As for Amanda, though, she could easily die from her gunshot wound during the Will Trent season 4 premiere. Amanda’s death would only send Will spiraling even more, hitting a low that many didn’t think was possible. Only time will tell how Will Trent season 4 handles Will’s pain, though, and it’s going to be utterly tragic.
